Fallacy in an advertisement:       In this ad the slippery slope fallacy is used. Slippery slope is when it is assumed that one thing is going to have a series of consequences lead to a worst case scenario.  If you don't do this, then this will happen, then this will happen, and so on. In the ad it shows that if you do not have direct tv and only have cable, all of these bad things will happen to you. First, you'll get angry at your cable tv for being on hold, then need to blow off some steam, then get hurt, then get an eye patch, then people will think you're tough, then those people will fight you to see how tough you are, and finally you'll end up waking up in a ditch. If you got rid of cable in the first place and had direct tv, none of these other things would have happened to you. Fallacy in a tv show: The Simpsons, season 13 episode 10- Half Decent Proposal ( https://www.imdb.com/title/tt0701104/ )      Hasty generalization is used in th...

President Bush Blog

Burke's Pentad to Former President Bush's 9/11 Speech Act- The act includes the president at the time, George Bush, who is addressing the nation. He is speaking out about the 911 attack that happened at the time, trying to give the American people some reassurance and a sense of safety. Letting American citizens know that they are trying to find the people who committed these acts and that he is with all of the people who might have lost somebody important to them in this horrible tragedy. Scene- The physical broadcast took place in the White House, but the actual place that this situation happened took place in New York and in Washington DC (at the Pentagon and at the twin towers). It happened September 11 of 2001. Agent- The agent is George Bush. He was the one who performed the action of giving the broadcast. He was the president at the time so he was the person that everyone looked to when this horrible tragedy happened. Everyone looks toward who is in charge, which is th...

Introducing the aqua-marine breather!                          Have you ever wanted to breathe underwater?! Whether that be in a lake, ocean, or any body of water.      This new invention is nothing like having an oxygen tank. It goes beyond that. An oxygen tank is for the purpose of scuba diving, but it eventually runs out of air. It does not allow you to go far out into the sea, and it does not allow you to go to a certain depth underwater because the pressure is too high. With the aqua-marine breather, it not only allows you to breathe underwater, it allows you to substantially stay in the water for a long time. Think of being a mermaid.      If you have ever wanted an ocean experience that would be unforgettable, you need our gadget. When you use our invention it gives you gill-like breathing. They appear on your neck, but it’s not super noticeable. All you need to do is t...

DV Blog 4 UPDATE

Image
Explore:       This ad appeals to emotion, logic and credibility (pathos, logos, ethos). Pathos is shown during the ad. The ad is trying to get the audience to feel anger for what the woman is going through, but also compassion for the woman in the ad. The ad uses vivid imagery by including her nose bleeding, and once it stops it comes back again. Which is showing that domestic violence is a 24/7 struggle from those suffering from it. Also shows her trying to cover up the bruises with makeup. But the more she covers them up the more they continue to pop up. The ad will evoke an emotional response from the audience, because after watching the ad, the audience will feel empathy for the woman and everyone else who is going through the same situation.      Logos is presented in the ad. The ad uses non verbal cues, but still shows solid explanations throughout the ad of why DV needs to be addressed. Cause and effect thinking is a logical appeal used in the ...

Tedtalk Blog

TedTalk Link:  https://www.ted.com/talks/mike_gil_could_fish_social_networks_help_us_save_coral_reefs      In this ted talk the speaker is talking about how different species of fish are communicating and coming together, to work together. At the beginning he asked who loves life under the sea and a bunch of people raised their hands. With this, he related it to when one person raises their hand, it gives other people the confidence to also raise their hand. It is the act of copying one another. When one does something first, then others have the confidence to follow. The copying behavior is the same in wild animals as well. In this particular scenario, it is regarding fish species. When one fish would go to eat algae on coral reefs, the other fish would as well, because they knew it was safe from predators. When a fish would leave and swim away, then the other fish would also leave because they would communicate that danger is approaching. This is exciting informati...

Amber Evert Dove Rhetoric Advertisement : "Your skin. Our planet. | Protecting and restoring forests' real beauty"        The example I chose is a dove advertisement video. This ad is an example of rhetoric because it is persuasive in the way the video makes you feel. Dove is a brand that produces many hygiene products like deodorant, soap, lotion, etc. Watching this video makes you want to purchase dove products because they were working to protect our rainforests (creating campaigns). In terms of logos, dove has the reasoned argument because they were working in the southeast asia area to help our forests. They want to help save/restore the environment and keep nature and the animals who live there safe. With ethos, they are credible because they are a very well known company and have the funds to help the environment. They are making a dove action project and include their website so people can look over and see exactly what they are doing to help.    ...
